Saint Clare of Assisi feast -day 11th August

St. Clare and St. Francis of Assisi

St. Clare and St. Francis of Assisi

Assisi is one of the world’s most beautiful locations. It is in Assisi’s hillside olive groves where Saint Clare spent her last 42 years in the Church  and Monastery of San  Damiano.  Clare was born in Assisi in 1193 a small city in the province of Umbria in Italy. As a young girl she listened to Francis talking about God,and Clare was so captivated by his words ,that she too felt a longing to know more about this God of love and mercy, which Francis spoke of with such inspiring enthusiasm. Clare like Francis felt that God was calling her to dedicate her life to Him by following the ideals of Francis. Clare became totally enamoured with God ;she renounced her worldly goods ,which  gave her complete freedom of spirit, and she was enriched with the gift of God’s grace  which she shared with all, through her life of prayer.        (   there  are many books written about her life  the C T S have produced a booklet “Clare of Assisi ( her life and message)” Clare of Assisi ” by Marco Bartoli  translated by Sister Frances Teresa OSC which is an excellent account of her Life.
